Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
From the authors of “Dark Souls” and “Bloodborne”, the Japanese video game development company “From Software, known for their “Armored Core” and “Souls” series, come another tale of exploration and persistence: “Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice”.
“Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice” is a stealth action-adventure video game played from a third-person view, that takes place in the Japan of the Sengoku period, and follows a shinobi (a covert agent or mercenary — a ninja) known as “Wolf” or the “One-Armed Wolf” as he attempts to take revenge on a samurai clan who attacked him and kidnapped his lord. The gameplay is dark and twisted, reminding players of the “Souls” series. It is focused on exploration, stealth and combat.
It is a difficult game to play (“Souls” series is renowned for the difficulty of the games). You explore a large fictional open-map inspired by Japanese real-world buildings. The game is impregnated with Japanese culture, like references to the Buddhist religion, philosophy and mythology. The combat is great with an emphasis on boss battles. As opposed to “Souls” games where guerrilla-like attacks were the rule, Sekiro wants you to be more aggressive in combat, even if stealth is still an important factor.

The game is set in an apocalyptic time when the United States was taken by eponymous Death Stranding, which caused devilish-like creatures from a different realm somewhere between life and death (kind of Purgatory) to begin meandering the Earth. Gamers get into control of the hero of the game Sam Porter Bridges, a courier that has a humane goal: to deliver supplies to isolated and estranged regions and reconnect them through a communication network.
His main enemies are “beached things” (BTs) and MULE. BTs are normally invisible out-of-this-world creature that come to Earth with a “timefall” rain, one that damages Sam’s armor and cargo because it accelerates time. They become visible to our hero because he has an equipment dedicated to it, a robotic sensor that show the BTs in proximity, like a radar. MULE is a cult of rogue porters that are trying to steal the cargo for themselves. The ultimate goal is to reconnect the humanity, to bring isolated surviving parts of the world into the Chiral Network.
Death Stranding is an amazing video game that is really unique. It has a well-designed gameplay and offers an out-of-ordinary experience. In terms of lore and visuals, the worlds created by Kojima are truly fresh and special. Death Stranding has a strange and incredible story, considering that you will put the time and play the game to the end, with a message of hope, the journey of a hero in a quest to save humanity.

From Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish video game company known for the first two installments in the “Max Payne” franchise, the award-winning cult classic “Alan Wake”, and critically acclaimed hybrid television-videogame “Quantum Break”, come “Control” an unforgettable action-adventure shooter video game published on 27 August 2019 by 505 Games. “Control” is played from a third-person perspective and offers a spectacular world to explore and an original story. It has great graphic and sound effects alongside some great combat, including gunplay, but also some other abilities to fight the enemies.
The action is taking place in a skyscraper in New York City called the “Oldest House”, which is the Federal Bureau of Control or FBC’s New York headquarter. FBC is a secret U.S. government agency that study paranormal phenomena, things that violate the laws of reality. The female hero Jesse Faden (performed by Courtney Hope), the FBC’s newly appointed Director, begin to explore the “Oldest House” and utilize her supernatural abilities, like telekinesis, levitation, and the ability to control certain enemies, in order to combat a dangerous enemy known as the “Hiss”, which has invaded and corrupted reality.
“Control” is using the proprietary Northlight Engine that was used in other projects of the company starting with the “Quantum Break”. The gameplay is amazing and the narrative perspective is among the best in a video game. Jesse is searching for her brother, that she believes he was captured by the FBC some time ago when he found an “Object of Power”, a paranormal slide projector that seems to have made every adult in their hometown disappear. The Oldest House is in essence an indoors open world that expands as our heroine is advancing in the game and completes side missions.
The combat is extraordinary because of the variety it offers to the players. Jesse starts with a FBC Service Weapon, a paranormal firearm that adapts into various forms with different combat applications. Besides the Service Weapon, Jesse has many supernatural skills. For example, she can “Launch”, a skill that allows her to telekinetically throw objects at enemies; or “Dash”, a skill that allows her to quickly cover a short distance, avoiding this way adversaries and projectiles. Advancing the game, she gains more skills and upgrades her Service Weapon (there is a skill tree). New powers come with the discovery of various “Objects of Power” hidden in the Oldest House. The “Objects of Power” are ordinary objects in appearance, but in reality endowed with supernatural forces.
“Control” is probably Remedy’s best game. Everything is great at this game: graphic, sounds, gameplay, story or presentation, making “Control” an enjoyable experience. “Control” creates an out of ordinary atmosphere, bizarre and mystical, impregnated by paranormal forces. The game is available for Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and it is among the best games yet.
The Outer Worlds
From the Obsidian Entertainment, the American video game developer specialized in interactive role-playing games, authors of Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Alpha Protocol, an the Pillars of Eternity franchise, come out one of the best games yet: “The Outer Worlds”. The game was published by Private Division, a Take-Two Interactive’s third publishing label, on October 25, 2019. “The Outer Worlds” is available for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows (and soon will be available for Nintendo Switch).

The rating style for combat is base on various factors, like the length of combo and dodging attacks or more variety.
Devil May Cry 5 is one of the best looking action games ever made. The animations are amazing, everything feels fresh, even if we are at the 6th game of the franchise. Attention to detail could not be overstated, not only in terms of graphic, but also in terms of the story. We are five years after DMC 4, so it seems logical that Dante to be older… and it looks older. The controls are fine and allow a great gameplay, but probably what it is incredible in DMC 5 is the fluidity in animation that makes playing the game a wonderful experience. Devil May Cry 5 is one of the best action games ever and one of our top choices.
