Rage 2, a re-evaluation of the best first-person shooter of 2019
Rage 2 is one of the most enjoyable action-adventure games out there. Released in 2019 by two studios with an important pedigree, the expectation run high and I believe most of the complaints come not from the game, but from the distance created by ourselves with our high expectations. We were very critic with the game, as anybody else. But think about it: if this is a 2.5/5 game or 5/10 game, how come you are still playing it?
Rage 2 does something very rare: it delivers an experience you have already seen lots of times, but makes it interesting regardless. People called it “dumb”, because it lacks a great story, and probably the critics are true in a certain sense. However, not 2.5/5 true!
“I hit the point of getting the main campaign’s final mission at around 12 hours, and I polished it off at around 15 hours… If you’re playing Rage 2 for the plot, you’re probably doing it wrong. Instead, Rage 2 is all about the combat and exploration.” says Ben Kuchera from Polygon.
The game is addictive, you will not be able to put your game controllers down, find yourselves in the morning shooting zombies without mercy. This is a game that you cannot put down, isn’t it worth more than bizarre menus and other crazy things and inadequacies? People prefer to play more than talking about this game. Rage 2 is fulfilling, is enjoyable, is fun!
Most the world consists of moving around and finding monies and substances to use on updating your character. There a sense of danger, although The majority of the time, you will be met by some kind of adversary seeking to slow you down.
Rage 2 features an unbelievable variety of items to unlock and update, this diversity and attention to detail should worth more than what the score offered by the critics of the game.
You can acquire new skills, augment your entire body tweak vehicle and every weapon, and more. If you update materials and don’t understand the intricacies of the skill trees, it will be daunting. I love the shotgun, especially when you shoot from the hip and threw away any obstacle in your way! This is crazy fun!
One of the critics that hurt most is that Rage 2 tries is just a Rage (the previous first-person shooter) with some decorative additions, otherwise saying it is rather superficial, unworthy, or to quote critics, is Rage with some added “splashes of pink”. I could not agree with open heart at this statement, and like everything else being criticized about this game, it is over the board. Certainly the expression “splashes of pink” is memorable, but it diminishes the value of the game, it is just a depreciative tag.
Does the game have the best visuals for a ps4 game or xbox game? Probably not. Are there ps4 games or xbox games with better content? Sure. Is it just “splashes of pink”, some eye candy threw away over a previous game, a washed released sold by a marketing machine that is tricking people into buying it? Is it Rage 2 a 5/10 video game?
My answer is definitively not. I would say that it does not exceed in content and visuals, but in combat. As they say, it is a “carnival or carnage”, with all the skills and weapons available in the game you can cause carnage in endless ways, and this is probably the best thing in a first-person shooting game.
The enemies are dumb, but the game engine it is not. Enemies come in big crowds and they move and look great. When you shoot them, the explode great, again in big numbers. You can go anywhere you want, shoot and explode at anything. This is fun and should worth more than the critics’ judgement. It cannot be a mediocre game and it is not all playability or combat.
The marketing hype is high. Here is an example:
“id Software’s shooter pedigree and Avalanche Studios’ open world prowess is dream-team-made-real for RAGE 2. It’s more than a shooter, more than an open world game — it’s a shooterverse.”
Does shooteverse catch on? I don’t think so, but it worth trying. Is it just marketing hype that sells the game? Is it just the previous history and the name, brand, authority of the developers that sell the game? Absolutely not.
The game is great! The game is fun! A 2.5/5 or 5/10 (or even less) are deceitful and critics made a bid disservice to the gaming community by their qualifications. When I see 5/10 I think to a mediocre result. Rage 2 is far from being mediocre! Give it a try. I belive to be the best first-person shooter game out-there, one of the best releases of 2019.
