Predator: Hunting Grounds is a new multiplayer video game developed by Illfonic and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for PS4 and PC. It is a shooter that will keep you occupied for some time. Probably it is not your first choice if you have to pick out a shooting video game, but coming from Sony Interactive Entertainment it’s worth playing and keeping an eye on developments as it may provide clues about the direction of ps4 shooting games.
Predator Hunting Grounds is an asymmetric multiplayer game, which means that players does have different goals inside the game. Usually it means that players does not have to be online in the same time. Will be these kind of games more popular in the future? From one point of view, it could make sense. I imagine large maps where combatants could play on their own schedule, as combat troops in real life where people often move asymmetric. I’ll say that such games could be very entertaining, could lead to situations where you’ll be careful where you go to sleep, so the enemy will not kill you while you’re away of the console… or teammates protecting the barracks where players sleep…
Still, it is not that kind of game here. Returning to Predator Hunting Grounds, released on April 24, 2020 — it has potential and it is within the new ps4 games published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Besides being a new release, a fact that may attract people on its face value, there are aspects of the game that are worth noting. It is fun when you are playing with friend — you can form a 4 players team online and start completing missions. It will lead to intense battles, especially when waiting for extractions. Playing with strangers on internet it’s cool too. There are some customization items, but it feels that Illfonic may have to work more in this sense. Probably new content will solve some of the issues discussed.
Playing the Predator
It is not yet among the best ps4 games ever, but it is not a waste of time either. I’ll say that if you are an early adopter, than Predator will be a great fit and you’ll find the game spectacular. Otherwise, you’ll complain about the bugs and issues (that I’m confident they will be fixed soon). Some received it with opened arms, and others were disappointed with the result. There are good parts and good ideas that may entertain you. Probably the most attractive thing is the Predator franchise, and “yes” — you can play the Predator! In fact, one player gets to play the Predator and four others are members of a team that receive various missions that they have to perform on the same hunting ground where the Predators stalks the prey. The idea is great, how about the execution?
When you hear about a game where you pit Predator vs people vs mission/AI combatants, even if they are part of an “elite Fireteam”, what do you want to be? Soldier or Predator? One of the most frustrating thing is the matchmaking. Players have to wait quite long and they are complaining about it. They also doesn’t get too often to play the Predator. It is a numbers game and the numbers does not favor the taste of the players. Most of them want to play Predator. There are four times more spots for regular people task with missions like in all the other games. The result is mathematically predictable, isn’t it? Why don’t they match with AI and let players enjoy playing their favorite character?
Predator: Hunting Grounds is new, is good enough, has nice ideas, and a couple of bad ones incorporated in an asymmetric online multiplayer video game that may attract the shooting fans out there. I put a lot of hopes in the future updates and I’ll keep on eye on the next Predator release.
